Women Are Never Strangers

I wanted to buy some new bra's today after purging my closet of old clothes. Clothing that had never been worn, others rarely warn, majestic one-time wears and collections from foreign countries. All the while adjusting my straps and maternal breasts to stay in place! Finally, I took off my bra and threw it in the trash. When I went to put a different one on, the underwire poked me in the armpit and landed it in a donation bag... not worn enough for the trash. The purging itself felt great. It was a deep dive into the past. My salvation of clothing. Most of it went, which is a kind of victory.

A few pieces stayed. Ones with longevity, ones that repeat, ones that have heritage.

My story takes me to the only lingerie store open after the lock down lifted. Imagine trying to buy bra's online or in stores without letting you try them on? Why are they even open?! This was the one store that had just the courage and business savvy to do so. I left all the others behind! But my point here is women! Women are such a tribal breed as women and men both know.

It's my third time this week to experience the unique quality of sisterhood that women share. The ability women have to be completely candid with one another about nearly anything in the first conversation they ever have, even if we never see each other again. We all understand the unity. It is the most remarkable thing I experience in strangers who are women.

Back to buying bras.

Today I decided to try on something that was more comfortable, ixnay the underwires.  A woman shopping in the store came over to talk to me about the bra's I was looking at trying and said she was thinking about doing that too. We briefly discussed the pros and cons of wireless bras and comfort and wanting to look good. Fast forward to the changing rooms and there were three of us trying on these bras. I walked into the open area to find her and her friend in their potential soft new bra's, poking and prodding at the fit, trying other sizes, all of us different ages, body types and stages in our life. I laughed inside at the sheer bravery that was going on! All of us standing in our jeans and newly dawned braziers in a great discussion of its virtues and our breasts.

Here in the changing room alley, I was witness again to the unique quality of sisterhood that women share, and why women are never strangers.
